Thanks to over 300 bikers, volunteers and their friends and families, more babies in Southern Maryland will be born healthy. On October 5 at Maryland International Raceway, riders came out to participate in the 11th Annual Bikers for Babiesยฎ and show their support for the smallest members of our community. They joined more than 35,000 people who will participate in Bikers for Babies rides across the country this year.
Over $45,000 was raised by Bikers for Babies in Maryland. The event supports March of Dimes research, community programs and educational services that help moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives.
โThis yearโs Bikers for Babies was a fantastic event for a cause that is close to my heart. My twin grandsons were born premature this year, and I thank the March of Dimes for their support,โ said Wayne Magoon, the 2014 Chair. โHelping babies should be a top priority, and Iโm proud to be part of a community where people come together for such an important cause. Weโre excited about what weโve accomplished together.โ
Premature birth is the most serious infant health problem in the United States today. It affects more than half a million babies nationwide each year. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have lifelong disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reversing this trend by funding research to find the causes of premature birth and providing comfort and information to families.
Heather Zeolla, mother of the 2014 Bikers for Babies ambassador family shared, โIt is nice to know there are other families out there that have similar experiences and that you are not alone in your journey. Until our experience with our boys, the March of Dimes was something I knew about but was not necessarily personal to me. Now, it hits home and we have a firsthand understanding of the benefits of such a wonderful organization. We are a prime example of the mission of the organizationโto help provide support to families and their babiesโ
