The National Science Foundation, located in Arlington, Virginia, currently hosts a display produced by St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s Boyden Gallery Director Mary Braun and Dr. Charles Adler, a physics professor at the college. Scientists Robert Greenler and David K. Lynch will speak publicly about atmosphere optics at the National Science Foundation on Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
“The Atmosphere Exposed: Photographs of Halos, Mirages, Iridescent Clouds… and more!” was created in conjunction with the 10th International Light and Color in the Open Air Conference held at St. Mary’s College of Maryland in June 2010. The traveling display showcases stunning atmospheric conditions through an array of forty-four printed photographs, which were captured by scientists, meteorologists, and amateur photographers from around the world. Robert Greenler is a professor emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the author of the books Rainbows, Halos and Glories and Chasing the Rainbow. David K. Lynch co-authored the book Color and Light in Nature and is the president of Thule Scientific, a company specializing in scientific research and education in Topnaga, CA.
