PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. – The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. for the Calvert County Housing Authority’s Southern Pines II Senior Apartments.

Southern Pines II is a 67-unit senior apartment complex located at 60 Appeal Lane in Lusby. It is located next to Southern Pines I and has access to public transportation, Southern Community Center and the Southern Pines Senior Center.

Despite weather related setbacks, Southern Pines II opened this summer, leasing more than 30 units with the assistance of Habitat for America. Funding for the $15 million project came through the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program and other state and federal sources. Calvert County Government donated nearly 9 acres of land for the project, which helped the county Department of Community Resources obtain a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant for the construction costs.

Southern Pines II features one- and two-bedroom apartments restricted to seniors 62 and older, appointed with fully equipped kitchens, walk-in closets, beautiful plank flooring and plush carpeting in the bedrooms.

The senior community offers a fitness center, laundry facilities, high-speed internet, an activity room and a library. There is also room to entertain guests in the spacious outdoor patio or multipurpose room. For questions regarding leasing, call 410-394-3900.
