Prince Frederick, MD – Perhaps the third time will be the charm for a restaurant building with a highly visible location. During the Thursday evening, July 30 meeting of the Calvert County Liquor Board, the owner of the soon-to-be-open Brick Wood Fired Bistro outlined his plans.

According to Jason Nagers of Prince Frederick, the restaurant will specialize in โ€œupscale American bar food.โ€

Seeking a Class B On Sale Beer, Wine and Liquor license, Nagers told the panel he has been in the restaurant business since he was 15. Additionally, he has worked as a bartender in Annapolis and for the past several years has been the manager of Salsaritaโ€™s in Prince Frederick.

Nagers said most of the restaurantโ€™s sales will be food. During weekdays the bistro will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. with slightly longer hours on weekends.

The restaurantโ€™s location is on Sherry Lane in Prince Frederick. It sits on top of a hill overlooking Route 2/4 directly across from the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.

The building originally housed Jasperโ€™s American Grille, which closed after four years of operation as the result of failed lease renegotiations. In August 2013 a liquor license was granted to new owners who turned the spot into Plaza Azteca.

Last December the owners of that restaurant were fined for staying open past their licensed closing time. A three-month suspension by the liquor board for that infraction was held in abeyance while the owners attempted to develop a better security plan. That plan revision was needed after local law enforcement responded to several calls regarding disturbances at the restaurant.

Nagers told the board he expects to open Brick Wood Fired Bistro during the first week of September.

The liquor boardโ€”members Beth Swoap and Ruth Reid along with newly appointed chairman Robert Arscottโ€”voted unanimously to grant the Class B license, pending the passage of a Health Department inspection and the obtaining of an Alcohol Awareness certificate.
