On Oct. 18 at 9:28 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 6800 block of Bumpy Oak Road
in La Plata for the report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries.
Investigation revealed Onika Sayyida Ishmael, 20 of Bryans Road, was traveling east on Bumpy Oak Road
when she lost control of her car and struck a guardrail, causing her vehicle to overturn and strike a tree.
Ishmael, who was six months pregnant, was transported by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Prince George’s Hospital Center where, upon arrival, doctors delivered her baby. Ishmael died on Oct. 20 as a result of the injuries she sustained in the automobile crash. Her daughter, who was transferred to Children’s Hospital after the delivery, died on Oct. 21.
Officer R.E. Glover, Jr., of the Traffic Operations Unit is handling the investigation.
