LITTLE GASPS OF SURPRISE were uttered from offices and student households across the area when Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) recently announced the departure of one of its favored sons.
North Point principal Peter Cevenini is leaving CCPS this month to assume an impressive post as the Kindergarten โ 12th Grade Education Consultant for Cisco Systemsโ North America operations.
โIโm not [working] in the same group as Iโve been involved with [for North Point].ย They didnโt lure me away,โ Cevenini told The Bay Net.ย โI wasnโt looking for anything and was very happy where I was.โ
A friend at Cisco Systems, Inc. wanted to refer Cevenini for the position. Cevenini realized it was an amazing opportunity and allowed the friend to put his name into consideration.ย
โThis is really an amazing once in a lifetime opportunity,โ said Cevenini.ย He said he felt he just had to take the chance when Cisco offered it to him.
As the K-12 Education Consultant in the Internet Business Solutions Group (Ciscoโs in-house consulting group), Cevenini will help shape the direction this powerful international company takes pursuing technologyโs future role in educational settings. Heโll have a hand in writing company policy, influencing the direction of projects; in essence guiding Ciscoโs involvement in all aspects of K-12 education.
โIโm very excited about the ability to make a huge difference in state and federal policy.ย I made a little splash working with [CCPS]. I get to make a huge splash in the types of things Iโll be involved with [at Cisco],โ Cevenini told The Bay Net.
North Pointโs first principal said he is a very big believer in public education and the role of technology in the lives of student. Heโs looking forward to helping schools understand how technology can better the lives of their students.ย
Cevenini is confident that, during his two year tenure as North Pointโs principal, heโs kept Superintendent James Richmond up to date on the schoolโs needs for the future. Heโs certain that Kimberly Hill, Richmondโs new appointment for principal, can take North Point High School where it needs to go.
Cevenini said he really enjoyed working with North Point and CCPS so much that heโs keeping his state teaching license current. He told The Bay Net that he โhopes to come back in a few years, maybe in a different roll. ย He admitted that he canโt imagine working for any other school system.
Charles County Public Schools superintendent James Richmond nominated four new principals at the recent Board of Education meeting.ย North Point’s first principal, Peter Cevenini hopes to change the future of educational technology through Cisco Systems, Inc.
