Ocean Buffet Coming To Former Lucianna’s Steakhouse In Waldorf

WALDORF, Md. — A familiar Waldorf restaurant space is getting a new life, with Ocean Buffet preparing to open in the former Lucianna’s Steakhouse location.

The Charles County Board of License Commissioners approved Ocean Buffet’s new beer, wine and liquor license during its Aug. 13 meeting. The approval is contingent on the restaurant receiving its health and use-and-occupancy permits.

During the hearing, owner Yanjuan Zheng said the buffet will include a wide mix of food.

“We have many kinds of food, including Japanese, Korean, and American food, and a lot of other foods.”

Customers will get their meals from the buffet, while drinks, including alcoholic beverages, will be ordered from servers at the table. The restaurant will also have a standalone bar.

Ocean Buffet expects to hire about 20 to 25 employees, including kitchen and bar management.

Zheng told the board she has about 10 years of restaurant experience and plans to be at the restaurant about six days a week.

The restaurant plans to open seven days a week, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Entertainment was originally included in the license application, but the owners decided not to pursue it for now. They could return to the Liquor Board later if they want to add entertainment.

There is still work to finish before Ocean Buffet opens.

County inspectors have already visited the property, and the owners are working with an architect and county officials on required updates. Attorney David Martinez told the board most of the remaining work involves the kitchen and health department requirements.

The Liquor Board gave Ocean Buffet 90 days to complete those requirements and pick up the approved license.

For Waldorf diners, the project means another longtime restaurant space could soon be busy again — this time with buffet choices ranging from sushi and hibachi to Chinese, Korean and American food.

Ocean Buffet will be located at 3331 Plaza Way, Waldorf, MD 20602.
