PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office welcomed two deputies to the agency during a swearing-in ceremony held Tuesday, July 28, during the Calvert County Board of County Commissioners meeting.
Sheriff Ricky Cox joined members of the Sheriff’s Office in recognizing the department’s newest deputies as they officially took their Oaths of Office. The Honorable Kathy P. Smith, Clerk of the Circuit Court, administered the oath before the deputies signed their official documents and were pinned by family members and agency leadership.
Among those sworn in was Deputy Ian Flaherty, a lifelong Calvert County resident and graduate of Patuxent High School. Flaherty completed a 32-week entry-level law enforcement academy in December 2024 while serving with a neighboring law enforcement agency. After joining the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office on June 1, 2026, he brings two years of prior law enforcement experience to the department.
The Sheriff’s Office said Flaherty’s dedication and commitment to public service will be a valuable asset to both the agency and the citizens of Calvert County.
The department also welcomed back Deputy Christopher Blackistone, a Calvert County resident who is returning to the Sheriff’s Office as a Contract School Resource Officer.
Blackistone will begin serving students and staff when Calvert County Public Schools reopen for the 2026-2027 academic year in August.
The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office encouraged the community to congratulate Deputies Flaherty and Blackistone on reaching this important milestone and thanked them for their commitment to serving the residents of Calvert County.
