One Stolen Hyundai, Multiple Alleged Car Break-Ins: Prince Frederick Man Charged

PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Prince Frederick man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after Calvert County Sheriff’s Office investigators alleged he stole a Hyundai Elantra from a Walmart parking lot and was later linked to a string of attempted vehicle break-ins and thefts at nearby shopping centers, according to court documents.

Trevon Maurice Thompson, 22, of Prince Frederick, was charged in two separate criminal cases in the District Court for Calvert County stemming from the incidents.

Combined, Thompson is charged with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft of property valued between $1,500 and under $25,000, three counts of rogue and vagabond, and two counts of theft under $100.

Walmart Employee’s Car Allegedly Stolen During Work Shift

According to the statement of probable cause, deputies responded shortly after 7:30 a.m. July 14 to the Walmart on North Solomons Island Road for a reported vehicle theft.

The vehicle owner told investigators she had parked her 2018 Hyundai Elantra outside the store before beginning work the previous evening. When she finished her overnight shift, she discovered the vehicle was missing.

Store surveillance footage allegedly showed a masked individual wearing a black hoodie, shorts, white socks and dark shoes walking through the parking lot shortly before 1 a.m. before entering the Hyundai through the rear driver’s-side door. According to investigators, the suspect then started the vehicle and drove away. The stolen vehicle was valued at approximately $14,000.

Deputies later responded to the Fox Run Shopping Center after receiving information that the stolen Hyundai had been abandoned behind Blue Crabs Sports Cards on North Solomons Island Road.

While reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses, a deputy reported observing a man matching the Walmart suspect’s clothing walking behind the shopping center toward Spot Out Cleaners before disappearing from view.

Later that evening, the deputy again observed a man matching the description near Prince Frederick Boulevard and Calvert Hills Road. The deputy attempted to contact him, but the man walked away toward 375 Elizabeth Drive before disappearing from sight.

According to court documents, approximately 20 minutes later, investigators spotted the same individual returning to the area wearing similar clothing but without the black jacket previously seen in the surveillance footage.

Deputies identified the man as Thompson through prior law enforcement contacts. According to court documents, Deputy Campbell noted Thompson had previously been investigated in connection with a November 2024 motor vehicle theft involving another Hyundai, in which investigators alleged a side door handle had been broken off and the ignition tampered with in a manner similar to the current investigation. That earlier investigation remains separate from the current case.

According to court documents, investigators recovered a black New Balance jacket matching the one allegedly worn by the suspect from a back patio at the apartment complex. Deputies also reviewed residential security footage that allegedly showed Thompson carrying a backpack before discarding it in a wooded area and later removing what appeared to be gloves and other items while walking toward Elizabeth Drive. Another deputy later recovered a pair of black gloves from a nearby bush.

According to court documents, based on the investigation, deputies charged Thompson with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, felony theft of property valued between $1,500 and under $25,000, and rogue and vagabond in connection with the stolen Hyundai.

Separate Investigation Alleges Attempts To Enter Multiple Vehicles

A second case filed the same week alleges Thompson targeted multiple parked vehicles outside the Maryland Eye Associates office on Prince Frederick Boulevard.

According to charging documents, deputies were dispatched at approximately 1:56 p.m. July 21 after witnesses reported a man pulling on vehicle door handles in the parking lot.

One witness told investigators she saw Thompson attempt to open both passenger-side doors of a parked Hyundai Elantra before moving to a second vehicle, where he allegedly opened the driver’s-side door after finding it unlocked. She reported Thompson briefly entered the vehicle before running away when she exited the building.

The owner of the second vehicle later reported a Geek Bar vape cartridge valued at approximately $30 had been stolen. The owner of the first vehicle told deputies nothing appeared to be missing because it had remained locked.

Deputies eventually located Thompson sitting outside the Prince Frederick Library on Costley Way.

According to the statement of probable cause, Thompson told deputies he had come from his girlfriend’s vehicle and was in the neighborhood because her car was parked nearby. Investigators noted Thompson initially denied involvement before witnesses positively identified him from a photograph.

Deputies also connected Thompson to a suspicious 2014 Ford Focus encountered earlier that day during unrelated calls for service in the Elizabeth Drive area. Investigators alleged they believed it was the same vehicle seen during the vehicle break-in investigation.

According to court documents, Thompson was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.

Court records show Thompson was initially held without bond following his arrest. After a July 22 bail review before Judge Robyn Riddle, he was released on his own recognizance in the vehicle theft case. He is scheduled for trial on Aug. 26, 2026, in Calvert County District Court.
