The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs took on the Camden Riversharks in the final game of the their four-game seriesย Sundayย at Campbellโs Field in Camden, NJ. After dropping the first three games, the Blue Crabs called upon right-handed pitcher, Gaby Hernandez to salvage the series finale against the โSharks. The โSharks countered with lefty Ryan Kulik, who had not beaten the Blue Crabs in his previous two outings. After both teams were deadlocked throughout at 1-1, the Crabs would break through in the ninth inning thanks to a Jeremy Owens two-out RBI single in the ninth to win 2-1.
The Blue Crabs would receive excellent pitching from starter, Gaby Hernandez, who had pitched seven shutout innings in his last start against Bridgeport. Hernandez threw six innings of 5-hit ball while allowing just one run and striking out three. Hernandez would receive some run support in the top of the third, after CF Jeremy Owens tripled and would come in to score on a sacrifice fly by RF Sean Smith.
The Riversharks would eventually push a run across in the bottom of the fifth when CF Billy Rice would come in to score on a LF Yasser Gomez RBI single. That would be it for the โSharks offense as they would tally eight hits on the day.
With the game headed to the ninth tied, the Blue Crabs offense went to work as DH Jose Julio-Ruiz and 1B Jose Salas would both single with one out. After a Blue Crabs strikeout, CF Jeremy Owens would come through with the game-winning RBI single scoring Ruiz from second. Closer, Jim Ed Warden would close it out in the ninth to pick up his 29th save on the year.
