Hollywood, MD – Reliable theatre sources tell me that the current production by the Newtowne Players of ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’ is not to be missed. Directed by Christopher Joyce, this Tennessee Williams drama will see its last performances this weekend: Friday and Saturday shows begin at 8 pm; the Sunday matinee is at 3:30 pm. This production marks the theatre’s 75th mainstage presentation. Tensions play out in 1947 in New Orleans’ French Quarter between the tragic Blanche DuBois (Kate Donnelly), her sister Stella (Sharol Buck) and Stella’s brutish husband, Stanley Kowalski (Jonathan Berry). The Kowalski’s upstairs neighbors are played by Aubrey Joyce and Luke Rowe. Steve Pugh portrays Mitch, who initially seems to be an ideal suitor for Blanche. The supporting cast includes Justin Brock, Kenneth Faison, Caridad Guy, Timothy Joyce, and Vicki Powalitz. Artistic Director is Dawn Weber.
Behind-the-scenes staff includes assistant director Sarah Joyce, producer Jenny Meisinger, stage manager Megan Probst, technical director Tom McCarthy, set designer Wade Thompson, lighting designer Tommy Ray Chedester, sound designers Beth Sanford and Chris Maulden, costume designer Marie Waltrip, and properties master Timothy Joyce. Live music is provided by Diane Trautman at the piano.
Tickets are $15 for adults: $12 for students, seniors and military. Thursday tickets are all priced at $10. Due to the mature nature of this play, no children’s tickets will be sold. For more information and for tickets you may contact the box office at (301)737-5447 or www.newtowneplayers.org.
