Huntingtown junior Tim Pawlowski scored on offense and defense as the Hurricanes defeated the Calvert Cavaliers 25-0 in a dominating performance that saw Calvert seemingly unable to get out of it’s own way. Mistakes doomed the Cavaliers in the first half, and an inability to move the ball in the second half gave the Hurricanes the easy win. Huntingtownd improved their record to 3-0, while Calvert fell to 1-2.
. Calvert opened up the scoring by snapping the ball over their punter’s head and allowing the Hurricanes to record a safety. After receiving the free kick, Huntingtown drove into Cavalier territory and came away with a field goal, making the score 5-0 with about 5 minutes left to play in the first quarter.
Calvert took the ball and promptly fumbled, with the ball being scooped up by Huntingtown linebacker Tim Pawlowski and returned 10 yards for a touchdown. The point-after try was missed, and the ‘Canes led 11-0.
The second quarter was largely uneventful until about two minutes before the half, when Huntingtown capped off a scoring drive with an 11 yard touchdown run that sent the teams to the half with the Hurricanes firmly in control, 18-0.
The third quarter was sluggish, with neither team able to establish much offense until Huntingtown QB Robbie Payne connected on a 35 yard scoring strike to Tim Pawlowski crossing deep over the middle. The PAT was good, and the Hurricanes led 25-0.
The fourth quarter saw Huntingtown clamp down on the Calvaliers and squeeze the last ounces of fight out of them. Content to grind out the lead, the Hurricanes defense did not allow Calvert any more opportunities. Robbie Payne finished off the evening’s scoring by hitting senior wide receiver Shane Cray for an 8 yard touchdown. After a successful kick the final score was Huntingtown 32, Calvert 0.
