The Leonardtown Planning Commission has approved the concept plan for the new elementary school on the Hayden Farm property. The planners gave unanimous approval at their August 20 meeting after a presentation from school officials and their architect. The new school will be modeled after Evergreen Elementary School but slightly larger.
At the meeting several commission member expressed concern about the lack of an emergency entrance/exit should the main road off Route 245, which is also access to Leonard’s Grant, become blocked. The school system is working with the county to develop such an exit. Commissioner Daniel Morris also has been a supporter of alternate access. Eventually there will be a second access through the new Clark’s Rest development on Route 5
