White Plains, MD— On Feb. 15, Charles County Sheriffโs Office Cpl.J. Rager responded to Prince Edward Drive in White Plains for the report of a domestic assault.
When Rager arrived at the scene he made contact with the victim who complained of, “pain and discomfort due to being struck with the handgun, and an officer observed bruising and redness on the upper left side of her back,” according to charging documents.
The victim advised she was talking on the phone with a friend. She believes that “Bahena overheard her talking and took part of her conversation out of context. She believes that based on what Bahena found out he thinks she was (victim) was cheating,” according to charging documents.
The defendant Daniel Rodriguez Bahena, 52, of White Plains is a police officer with the Prince Georgeโs County Sheriffโs Office is also the victim’s husband. According to charging documents, “Bahena removed his agency-issued handgun from its holster and began waving it around. Bahena stated to the victim ‘you know I can kill you.’ “
Bahena was charged with first-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, reckless endangerment, and second-degree assault.
On Feb.16 Bahena was taken to theย Charles County Detention Center, he then went before a District Court Commissioner. The bail was set at $5,000, Bahena was released on Feb.17.
It should be noted that Bahena is, “currently suspended without pay,” according to the Prince Georges Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Waitmire.ย
