LA PLATA, Md. — A 27-year-old man charged in a fatal shooting in Charles County has been extradited back to Maryland and is now being held at the Charles County Detention Center, according to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.

Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, was transported on March 31, 2026, from the Albemarle County Detention Center in Virginia by members of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Judicial Services Section. He was booked into the Charles County Detention Center following his arrival.

Webber had previously waived his right to an extradition hearing during a court appearance in Albemarle County, clearing the way for his return to Maryland to face charges.

According to officials, Webber is currently being held pending a bond review hearing, which will be conducted remotely in accordance with standard procedures for incarcerated individuals at the facility.

Due to Webber’s medical and mobility needs, the sheriff’s office said appropriate accommodations are being provided in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, as well as established correctional standards and best practices.

Authorities said no additional details regarding booking procedures, housing arrangements or security measures will be released.

The charges stem from a March 22, 2026, shooting in La Plata. Investigators allege Webber was driving a vehicle when an argument broke out with a front-seat passenger, escalating into gunfire inside the vehicle.

After the shooting, authorities say Webber fled with the victim still inside before the victim, identified as 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells of Waldorf, was later found deceased along Newport Church Road in the Charlotte Hall area.

Webber remains in custody as the case proceeds through the court system.
