The BayNet has gone to considerable trouble to “protect” their sacred intellectual property — namely the photos they post on their website. You cannot copy them or save them to your PC. They have every right to do that and I have every right to complain about it. It is simply stupid.

1) It amounts to an unjustified pain in the butt. 2) The truth is it serves no purpose aside from their paranoia. 3) There is no realistic threat of any kind. 4) It would be easy to force an attribution embedded in each photo rather than to preclude downloading them. 5) What exactly is the very worst thing someone might do with a photo that was the “property” of the BayNet? You cannot think of anything significant and neither can I… because there isn’t any real threat. 6) Just imagine what you would lose in the very worst (and extremely unlikely) case of someone out and out selling your photos ? Not a dime. Ridiculous. 5) Above all (for the Baynet’s own benefit if they had enough sense to realize it) allowing people to store copies of the photos with an attribution on the picture slowly but surely causes MORE business for viewing of the website and thus more revenue — NOT LESS !

I for one would visit the website more often if it were friendly in terms of photo copying. Many others would too. To the extent that people might email these things around, it also spreads the word as to where such photos are available and becomes free advertising for the Baynet. We live with a lot of boogeymen (fake fears) these days — some more irritating than others.
