With the changing of the seasons, the regionโs residents stoke their fireplaces, dust off their space heaters, and break out extension cords and candles for use in Halloween displays.
Today, the Council of Governments Fire Chiefs Committee, comprised of fire officials from across metropolitan Washington, will provide safety tips for avoiding fire disasters this fall and year-round. In addition to addressing recent fire incidents in Fairfax and Charles Counties, they will remind the regionโs residents to test and change batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors in tandem with changing clocks for the end of Daylight Saving Time, and develop a plan for exiting the home in the case of an emergency.
