On March 6, at 11:35 p.m., patrol units responded for the report of a shooting on Oakley Road in Avenue.
Upon arrival deputies discovered the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the arm. The victim advised he was retrieving mail from a mailbox when a vehicle passed by and an unknown occupant of the vehicle had shot him.
Detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded and assumed the investigation. As a result of the investigation, detectives were able to determine the victims injuries were a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound and no other persons were involved.
The victim was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing.
