LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A 24-year-old man was charged after deputies reported he caused a disturbance inside a Leonardtown restaurant and forced the front door off its hinges.

Donavan Dontrelle Johnson was charged with malicious destruction of property valued at less than $1,000 and disorderly conduct.

The charges stem from an incident reported at approximately 11:39 a.m. July 3, 2026, at Domoishi in the 22800 block of Washington Street.

Charging documents state a St. Mary’s County sheriff’s deputy arrived and found the restaurant’s front door visibly broken from its hinges. Johnson was inside the business in an agitated state and became upset when the deputy asked him to step outside.

Investigators reported Johnson raised his voice loudly enough to disturb customers inside the restaurant before he was detained.

A customer told deputies Johnson had been inside the restroom for approximately 20 minutes and could be heard yelling throughout the establishment. When the customer asked Johnson to leave the restroom so others could use it, Johnson allegedly became upset and left the business.

An employee provided a similar account and reported Johnson exited the restroom in an agitated and aggressive manner.

Charging documents state the employee saw Johnson forcefully push the front door open, causing it to break from its hinges and slam into the brick wall outside.

Deputies reviewed surveillance video that reportedly confirmed the witness accounts.

Johnson acknowledged opening the door but claimed it was defective and denied intentionally trying to damage it, charging documents state. Investigators reported the force used was sufficient to break the door from its hinges and send it into the adjoining wall.

Johnson was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. He was released July 3 after posting a $500 unsecured personal bond.

A trial is set for Aug. 18, 2026, in St. Mary’s County District Court.
