At 7:31 a.m. May 18, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Merchants Tire located at 1160 Smallwood Drive in Waldorf for the report of an armed robbery attempt.
The investigation revealed the victim, a 23-year-old La Plata man, was opening the business when the suspect, who the victim believed was a customer, approached the front door.
The suspect charged at the victim, demanded money and implied he had a weapon. The victim punched the suspect and a struggle ensued. The suspect fled the store toward Smallwood Drive and across Route 301.
Officers searched the area but did not locate the suspect. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s with an unshaven face and a “split lip.” He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a tan hat.
