Zaneb Basharat, a fifth-grader at C. Paul Barnhart Elementary in Waldorf, throws a pie in the face of Timothy Rosin, Barnhart principal, during the school’s Relay for Life fundraiser in early June.

Third-grade teacher, Susan Opalach, and first-grade instructional assistant, Kathy Brooke, also had their faces powdered in pie as part of the event that raised $700 for cancer victims. In all, Barnhart students raised $6,000 for Relay for Life during the 2007-08 school year. Fundraisers included Save a Dime, Save a Life, student council candy sales and a bicycle raffle.
