LA PLATA, Md. — A Maryland man is facing an assault charge after allegedly striking a nurse inside the emergency room at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, according to court documents.
Robert Byrce Hall, 61, of Upper Marlboro, was arrested April 11, 2026, following the incident at the hospital on Garrett Avenue in La Plata.
According to charging documents, officers responded to the emergency department for a reported disturbance and learned a nurse had been assaulted while attempting to treat a patient.
Investigators say Hall was being evaluated on a stretcher when a nurse attempted to take his blood pressure. During the process, Hall allegedly raised his arm and struck the nurse in the chest. A second nurse later observed a red mark consistent with the reported assault.
Authorities also noted Hall appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and became argumentative with staff and officers during the incident.
Hall was taken into custody at the hospital and later transported to the Charles County Detention Center.
He has been charged with second-degree assault and was released on his own recognizance.
A trial is set for May 27, 2026, in Charles County District Court.
