ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Downtown Annapolis will be buzzing with holiday spirit – and plenty of bare skin – on Saturday, December 14, as the annual Santa Speedo Run returns for its 18th year. Participants decked out in holiday-themed swimwear will take to the streets for a brisk run, all while supporting a good cause.
The event, hosted at O’Brien’s Oyster Bar and Seafood Tavern on Main Street, is a lively mix of fitness, fun, and philanthropy. This year, the run benefits once again the Boys and Girls Clubs of Annapolis and Anne Arundel County and the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, with organizers collecting toy and food donations to brighten the holidays for local children in need.
A Day of Festivities
The day kicks off at 11 a.m. with registration, check-in, and pre-run refreshments at O’Brien’s. Participants and spectators are invited to drop off donations during this time. Shortly after noon, the crowd will gather for Christmas carols and festive photos before hitting the sidewalks at 12:30 p.m. sharp.
Runners – clad in Speedos, swimsuits, or other holiday-themed attire – will traverse a designated route through the heart of Annapolis, keeping the merriment alive and well. After the run, the party continues back at O’Brien’s with live music by the Timmie Metz Band featuring Tambo, keeping the holiday vibes going strong until 3 p.m.
A Tradition of Giving
Since its inception in 2006, the Santa Speedo Run has become a cherished tradition, raising awareness and collecting thousands of toys for children in need. According to organizers, the event’s goal is to spread joy and laughter while helping families in the community.
“This event is all about holiday cheer,” said one volunteer. “It’s a chance to have fun and make a difference at the same time.”
Get Involved
Registration is still open online, with a $25 entry fee. Men are encouraged to don Speedo-style swimsuits along with Santa hats and beards, while women can choose swimsuits, skorts, or any festive gear. Spectators are welcome to join in the fun and cheer on the participants from the sidelines.
So, whether you’re running, strolling, or simply soaking in the festive atmosphere, the Santa Speedo Run promises a memorable way to celebrate the season. Just don’t forget to bring your holiday spirit – and maybe a donation for the kids.
