The St. Mary’s County Board of Education is retaining its same leadership for another year. The board at its December 11 meeting unanimously voted for Dr. Salvatore Raspa as chairman and Brooke Matthews as vice chairman,
Raspa is ending his third term on the board next year and Matthews his first term. Raspa is the First Commissioner District representative and Matthews is from the Third Commissioner District. School board members are voted county wide but four must be residents of each of the four commissioner districts and one runs at large.
Both Raspa and Matthews’ positions are up for re-election in 2014. Raspa, a retired educator, principal and administrator, is ending his third term in 2014. Matthews, a real estate agent, is ending his first term. Matthews has filed for re-election. No one has yet filed for the First District seat although Raspa is expected to seek re-election.
