WALDORF, MD — It’s definitely crab season in Southern Maryland, and this family owned business is determined to support local watermen and provide the community with locally caught crabs, fish, shrimp, oysters and more.

Southern Maryland Crabs and Seafood, located at 3619 Leonardtown Road in Waldorf, opened in mid-May this year with two employees and seven crabbers, said Traci Maske, general manager.

“Our crabbers will go to the Patuxent River and bring the crabs directly to us after they leave the water. You can see them unloading the boats if you time it right,” said Maske.

Serving only raw and steamed seafood, Southern Maryland Crabs and Seafood offers different specials to the community in their mobile units.

“Our specials can be random. Sometimes we offer 50 percent off everything. Right now, people can get two dozen of the number 1 males for $70, or a dozen number one and one pound of large shrimp for $48, or they can get one pound of crab legs and a pound of large shrimp for $19.99,” said Maske.

Maske’s favorite item on the menu is the number one males.

“They’re always heavy and full of juicy meat,” said Maske.

Maske’s enjoys working for this small business because of the family atmosphere the business offers.

“We are family owned, and very personable with our customers. I love knowing our customers’ names and what they will be ordering as they walk through the door,” said Maske.

Southern Maryland Crabs and Seafood is open Monday through Thursday from 3 to 7:30 p.m..

“On Fridays we are open from 2 to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday we’re open from noon to 7:30. On Sunday we’re open from noon until 6 p.m.,” said Maske.

Being strictly carry-out only, the small business has a mobile trailer for catering and crab feasts.

“All our crabs are locally caught and processed compared to shipping in out-of-state crabs. We aren’t a corporate company like Red Lobster, and we love our customers and are very personable with them,” said Maske.
