On Saturday, Dec. 27, search and rescue crews were dispatched to St. Mary’s Lake for four people needing assistance off the bike trail.
An adult male and three children ages 7, 8, 12, on bicycles set out on the bike path before dusk without any water, and as the sun began to set they realized they might be in trouble. A call for help went out around 5 p.m.
Rescue crews, rescue boats and a Maryland State Police Helicopter (Trooper 7) were dispatched to 21250 Camp Cosoma Road in Camp Cosoma Park.
Shortly before 6 p.m., Trooper 7 and one of the rescue boats had the lost party in sight and were able to remove them from the path and put the children on life rafts.
The lost party was safely returned to shore at 6:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
