From Archdiocese of Washington
Senior Jenna Taylor from St. Maryโs Ryken High School (SMR) has been chosen โOutstanding Female Catholic Youthโ by the Archdiocese of Washington (ADW). This award is presented to a high school senior for being a leader to young people within a Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Jenna is a member of St. George Catholic Church in Valley Lee, Md.
Jenna will be presented with the award on May 8 at the Office of Youth Ministry/Catholic Youth Organization Board of Directorโs Awards Banquet held Hyattsville, Md.
During her years at SMR, Jenna has participated in a wide variety of academic programs and on athletic teams. In her senior year alone, she is a member of the National Honor Society, an elected member of the Honor Council, a CCD teacher for Pre-K, a coach for 3rd and 4th grade basketball, a mentor in FLOW mentoring for elementary school students, the senior leader for the XBSS (Xaverian Brothers Sponsored Schools) stewards, a manager for both the boys lacrosse and hockey teams, and a leader for freshman and junior retreats.
โThe most important lesson I have learned from St. Maryโs Ryken,โ said Jenna, โis how important balance is in your life. You have to be able to balance school, friends, family and God. If you are able to do that you will be successful.โ
This fall, Jenna will pursue a degree in economics at Clemson University.
St. Mary’s Ryken is a Catholic, college preparatory high school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers and works to inspire lives of learning, faith and service in each student.ย
