The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs squared off against the Bridgeport Bluefish in the first of a three-game set Monday at Regency Furniture Stadium. Taking the ball for the Blue Crabs was left-handed pitcher, Michael Ballard, who was looking to earn his seventh win on the season. He was opposed by Bridgeport righty Josh Butler who was aiming to improve on his 3-5 record. The Blue Crabs scored first but fell behind early and although they rallied they couldn’t make it all the back falling 7-4 to the Bluefish.
Things looked good for the Blue Crabs early as SS Renny Osuna rocketed a Josh Butler pitch deep over the leftfield wall to give the Blue Crabs an early 1-0 lead. The Bluefish would respond in a hurry with a seven-run second inning, highlighted by a three-run homer off of the bat of Bluefish third basemen Iggy Suarez. The Blue Crabs would respond with one in the third and then have the bases loaded in the sixth but could only push one across before leaving the bags full of Blue Crabs. The Bluefish added one more in the ninth to solidify the 8-4 victory.
UP NEXT – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs look to bounce back as they play game two of their series against the Bridgeport Bluefish tomorrow night beginning at 7:05pm. The Blue Crabs will send RHP Gaby Hernandez to the win looking to win his sixth game on the season to the mound and he will be opposed Bluefish lefty Hunter Jones.
