ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Maryland officials certified the 2026 Primary Election results for federal and statewide offices July 23, finalizing the state-level vote count and posting county-by-county totals for St. Mary’s, Calvert and Charles counties.
The Maryland Board of State Canvassers presented the certified findings to the Maryland State Board of Elections. The posted results also include local primary vote totals for Southern Maryland races.
This year marked the first time local boards of elections used risk-limiting audits of voted ballots statewide. The process, enacted into Maryland law in 2025, uses statistical methods to audit and confirm tabulator-reported results with a high degree of certainty.
“I thank the Board of Canvassers for their careful oversight of the certification process,” State Administrator of Elections Jared DeMarinis said. “This step of public certification and independent oversight ensures that every eligible vote is accounted for and that the public can have confidence in the integrity of our elections.”
DeMarinis also thanked state and local election staff for their work administering what he described as a secure and accessible primary election.

Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller carried the Democratic gubernatorial primary in all three Southern Maryland counties, while Dan Cox and Rob Krop led the Republican gubernatorial primary in all three counties.

Adrian Boafo led the Democratic primary in all three Southern Maryland counties. The Republican primary showed a split in county-level results, with Chris Chaffee leading in St. Mary’s and Calvert counties and Michelle Talkington leading in Charles County.

In Charles County, Amanda Stewart won the Democratic primary for county commissioner president, while Joe Crawford won the Republican primary. Charles County also gave Michelle Talkington her strongest Southern Maryland showing in the Republican primary for the 5th Congressional District.
The Board of State Canvassers consists of five ex officio members: Attorney General Anthony G. Brown, Comptroller Brooke E. Lierman, State Treasurer Dereck E. Davis, Secretary of State Susan Lee and Greg Hilton, clerk of the Supreme Court of Maryland. Brown was represented by Deputy Attorney General Erica Roach, and Lierman was represented by Deputy Attorney General Carrie Williams.
