Chesapeake Beach, MD – More details are being released by investigators regarding the collision of two vessels on the Chesapeake Bay in the Twin Beach area Saturday night, June 30.ย
According to Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) spokeswoman Candy Thomson,ย two men from Manasass, VA were returning to Chesapeake Beach around 9:30 p.m. after a few hours of fishing. Their 20-foot Bayliner struck a 27-foot Wellcraft with five people on board. The vessel was anchored while those on-board watched the fireworks.
“The striking vessel hit the Wellcraft amidships,” Thomson stated. “One 20-year-old woman was thrown into the water and knocked unconscious. Two passengers were not injured. Two other passengers had minor injuries. The striking vessel was towed into the Rod ‘N’ Reel and then impounded by NRP for its investigation. The operator of the Bayliner tested negative for alcohol/drugs.”
Thomson identified the operator of the striking vessel as Kevin Santana Andrade, 23 of Manassas, VA.ย
The woman who was knocked unconscious was treated at shock trauma and released, Thomson reported.

Chesapeake Beach, MD – Several people were hospitalized late Saturday night, June 30 after two boats collided in the waters near Chesapeake Beach, police reported. Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) spokeswoman Candy Thomson told TheBayNet.com that the collision between a 20-foot Bayliner and a 27-foot Wellcraft occurred around 9:40 p.m. while the townโs traditional Independence Day holiday fireworks show was underway. Thomson said several people were taken to Calvert Memorial Hospital and one person was transported to shock trauma. The incident is under investigation and NRP will have more details later.
