Drivers throughout SMC are seeing road construction in every neck of the woods. The BayNet.com got an update from State Highway Administration’s District 5 Community Liaison Bob Rager on the many projects. He said that while recent heavy rains have caused some delay, temperatures have been high enough to continue asphalt projects. Rager stated, “We’ll keep going as long as we can.”
MD 236- Thompsons Corner Rd.
A late addition to St. Mary’s stimulus-funded resurfacing contract, Rager said this project was a “high priority for the county.” The contractor, F.O. Day, plans to have all major patching work done before winter sets in and will resume milling and resurfacing of the entire roadway in spring or summer.

MD 246- Great Mills Rd.
SHA’s Streetscape Project combined with the water and sewer lines work has led to some midday traffic delays, but Rager said Rustler Construction is making good progress and “will continue utility work as long as the weather holds.” The contractor may continue working on curbs, gutters and sidewalks throughout the winter.ย

MD 237- Chancellors Run Rd.
This widening project’s next phase is a traffic shift near Amber Drive and MD 235 to prepare for excavation of the existing roadway where continued construction will transform it into part of the new northbound lanes. Rager said a date for the traffic shift is expected soon.

The SHA continues the MD 5 Leonardtown Streetscape Project and Rager said, “A few weeks of dry weather would certainly help before the asphalt plants close for the winter.” Project details on these road improvements can be found at http://www.marylandroads.com/home.aspx and check for traffic and project updates 24/7 on TBN and BayNet Radio.
