Members of the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office and Detention Center had a hand in helping make Christmas a little brighter this year for many families struggling to make ends meet.

For years, Sheriffโ€™s and Corrections officers have actively supported the Childrenโ€™s Aid Societyโ€™s Christmas Connection effort, which provides donated food, toys, clothes and other items to the communityโ€™s neediest families. Last week, officers, including Sheriff Rex Coffey, helped unload truckloads of items into the Maryland Army National Guard armory in La Plata. This week, after families shopped the connection, officers helped load the toys into their cars. ย  Adding to the connectionโ€™s success was the contribution from the members of the Corrections Division who held a toy drive earlier this year and collected over $3,000 worth of toys, bicycles, stuffed animals, and clothes.
