The Calvert Marine Museum will present the final PEM Talk in The Calvert Cliffs Conundrum series on Thursday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Doug Samson will present Shifting Shoreline: The Complex Case of Cove Point Marsh in the auditorium. The featured event is free.
Dr. Samson is the Senior Scientist with the Maryland/DC Chapter of The Nature Conservancy and a member of the Science Advisory Group for the Cove Point Natural Heritage Trust. The Conservancy has co-held (with Maryland Environmental Trust) a conservation easement on 600 acres of land owned by Dominion LNG at Cove Point, including the 150 acre Cove Point Marsh, since 1994. The Science Advisory Group provides recommendations to the Trust and Dominion on biological field studies and research in the marsh, and also advises on the management program to eradicate phragmites from the marsh. ย Dr. Samson will discuss the complexities associated with both natural processes and human activities at Cove Point over the decades and how those have affected this shifting shoreline.ย
The PEM Talks series is FREE and funded by Bob and Betty Currie, with additional support from Holiday Inn Solomons. PEM refers to paleontology, the environment, and maritime history, the three themes covered by the museumโs exhibits. Visit the website at www.calvertmarinemuseum.com for more information.ย
