NEW BRITAIN CT. — RHP Kyle Simon mowed down the Blue Crabs as the Bees pitcher went 8.1 innings, allowing just one earned run as the New Britain defeated Southern Maryland 5-1. New Britain got the scoring started in the bottom of the first on Jonathan Roof’s RBI single. A couple of batters later with Greg Golson at the plate RHP Tim Sexton uncorked a wild pitch that allowed Steve Carillo to score to make it 2-0 New Britain.
In the bottom of the seventh, former Blue Crabs outfielder Jovan Rosa ripped a two-run double to bring the score to 4-0. Fast forward one more inning, and Jon Griffin singled in a run to bring the Bees runs total to five. That was all Simon needed, as the righty went 8.1 innings and at one point retired nine of ten Blue Crabs hitters.
Tonight’s game marked the seventh straight in which the offense has failed to score five or more runs. The finale of the four-game series will take place tomorrow afternoon at 1:35 as the Blue Crabs will look to split the series.
