Lexington Park, MD – In-county rivals Northern and Calvert faced off in a two-day long battle that started Friday and concluded on Saturday. This game was one of the many that were rescheduled to finish on Saturday due to lightning delays as thunderstorms filled the Southern Maryland skies.

On their first drive, Calvertโ€™s linemen dominated the line of scrimmage, allowing senior running back Dre Mackall to rack up several long runs. Mackallโ€™s power was on display as he surged through the line, scoring the teamโ€™s first and only touchdown. The ensuing extra point was blocked by Northern which proved to be pivotal by the contestโ€™s end.

Northern won the game 7-6 with 186 combined yards rushing and passing. Junior quarterback Rex Flemming was 10 of 14 passing for 88 yards and led the team in rushing yards with 36. Flemming scored the teamโ€™s only touchdown after a 15 yard run by senior running back R.J. Dennis who brought the ball to the one-inch line. Despite a high snap, Northern kicker Austin Hood (Sr.) made the extra point and gave his team the lead.

Calvert held all of the momentum the first half of the game on Friday night but came out completely flat Saturday. Northern took advantage of this and began moving the ball through the air which gave some breathing room to the run game. Both defenses played very well, as the low score implies and in the end it was special teams that put Northern ahead in the game.

Calvertโ€™s stats were not yet posted to Maxpreps.com at the time of this article.
