The state’s most talented Career and Technology Education (CTE) high school students showcased their skills in 85 career and technical categories during the 46th Annual National Leadership and Skills (SkillsUSA) Conference held in June in Kansas City, MO.
The St. Mary’s County Public Schools (SMCPS) team of Miranda Reyna, Brent Thorward, and Billy Yost of the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center (Forrest Center) captured the gold medal in Crime Scene Investigation; Forrest Center student Donna Ly won a silver medal in Technical Drafting; and Forrest Center student Matthew Richards won 4th place in CNC Milling Technology.
SkillsUSA is a national organization serving high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled, and service occupations including health occupations. Maryland has a statewide membership of 5,100 high school students. Members have consistently demonstrated their expertise and professionalism while participating throughout the year in a variety of leadership and competitive conferences.
