SMECO was one of several Maryland organizations named as Special Honorees this year.

The award commemorates the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Cooperative.

The ceremony noted that SMECO “remains a cooperative corporation, owned by its members and operated for them on a non-profit basis. Rates are based on the cost of doing business.

Surplus income is returned to the members through Capital Credits.”
