On March 25 aroun 10:14 p.m., firefighters got a call for report of a fire in the 3700 block of Chinquapin Road in Nanjemoy.
Rescue crews arrived on the scene to discover a fire in a one story, wood frameย single-family dwelling originating in the homeowners bedroom. The fire was accidental in nature, resulting from a malfunction in the electrical wiring. Properly functioning smoke alarms helped the family evacuate safely. The family has been displaced and is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
The blaze took over 25 firefighters from Nanjemoy, Marbury and Potomac Heights VFD about 25 minutes to bring under control.
Estimated damage rings in at $20,000.
