The Solomons Island Dragon Boat Festival is going on today!

Proceeds from the festival will benefit Southern Maryland Community Resources’ programs for members of the community with developmental differences.

As Pope Francis said in his message to Catholics across Britain and Ireland before the annual Day for Life: “All life has inestimable value even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect.”

The Archdiocese of Washington’s Department of Special Needs Ministries helps Catholics who have special needs access their faith by providing support, education, resources and connections to community partners, one of which is Southern Maryland Community Resources.

As a visible reminder of the Holy Father’s ministry and his emphasis on inclusion of all in the life of the Catholic Church, the Fiat 500L used during his visit to Washington last year will be parked on the lawn of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. The papal Fiat is being used to focus attention on the ministries, public service, community engagement and ongoing acts of mercy of the Archdiocese of Washington.
