Southern Maryland — Southern Maryland Airbnb hosts earned over $10 million dollars offering their properties as short-term rentals over the summer. $10,700,000 to be exact.
According to Airbnb, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, hosts across Maryland earned a whopping $33.6 million dollars by hosting 188,000 guests.
If you aren’t familiar with Airbnb, the service allows customers to book accommodations online in private homes. Users can book entire homes or just rent a room.
Prince George’s County saw the most Airbnb customers, with 32,100 guests spending $5.1 million on accommodations.
Anne Arundel County Airbnb hosts welcomed 23,600 guests who spent $4.5 million dollars.
Clavert County saw 3,600 visitors to Airbnb properties for a total host income of $594,000.
St. Mary’s County had 2,500 Airbnb guest which generated $408,000.
Charles County welcomed the fewest visitors with 1,400 but that still generated $198,000 in income for hosts.
The top five city destinations for Airbnb guests to Maryland this summer were, in order: Baltimore, Annapolis, Silver Spring, Oakland and Hyattsville.
As of July 2019, approximately 1.1 million Maryland residents used Airbnb to travel over the past year.
