The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs faced off against the Somerset Patriotsย Fridayย at TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, NJ. After taking 3-of-4 from the first place Long Island Ducks, the Blue Crabs sent Right-handed pitcher Gaby Hernandez to the mound looking to take the first game of the three-game set. The Patriots countered with a righty of their own in David Harden. The two would get locked in a pitchersโ duel but the Patriots would get the better of the Blue Crabs, winning 2-1 on a walk-off single by DH Jake Fox.
In their last two games, Blue Crabs starting pitchers had allowed just two runs over 14 1/3 innings pitched. With righty Gaby Hernandez taking the mound, the Blue Crabs were looking for another quality outing from their starter. Hernandez wouldnโt disappoint as he pitch 5 2/3 excellent innings while only allowing one run, which came off the bat of Patriots all-star, Eddy Martinez-Esteve. Hernandez, along with relievers Jordan Conley and Charlie Manning would combine to throw 7 2/3 and allow just the one run on five hits.
The only offense the Blue Crabs could muster would come in the top of the first when Jeremy Owens would come around to score on a Renny Osuna fielderโs choice after he had been hit by a pitch to start the contest.
The Patriots would win it in the ninth however, when designated hitter Jake Fox would single to right field scoring center fielder Johnny Tucker, who had walked to leadoff the inning.
