The Blue Crabs avoided the sweep to Lancaster Wednesday afternoon, July 8 at Regency Furniture Stadium after blowing five and six run leads in the first two games on Monday and Tuesday night.
Similar to the previous games of the series, Southern Maryland jumped out to a big lead early. Jermy Acey, Patrick Osborn and James Shanks scored in the first inning to give the Crabs a three-run lead. The trio scored in the second inning as well for the Blue Crabs by way of a monster three-run home run off the bat of Shanks.
Blue Crabsโ starter Ryan Bicondoa was lights out for the first half of the game. After giving up a hit to lead off the game, Bicondoa retired the next 13 straight batters into the fifth inning.ย Lancaster got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning when David Housel scored on a Matt Watson triple.
However, another miraculous comeback by the Barnstormers was nowhere to be found as Bicondoa (7-2) pitched eight innings for the win, giving up the one run on six hits.ย Starter Eric Ackerman (3-6) got the loss for Lancaster (32-37), giving up six runs in seven innings of work. Jimmy Serrano pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Blue Crabs (41-28), in a non-save situation, to preserve the 6-1 win.
