The Blue Crabs played their first home game of the second half Friday night July 17 at Regency Furniture Stadium against the Camden Riversharks. The Crabs came into the game with a four-game win streak after sweeping York, but it was Camden who scored first and took control of the game.
In the top of the first, Junior Spivey hit a two-run homer for the Riversharks as part of a three-run inning. Southern Maryland answered right back with an RBI single by Michael Tucker and a two RBI single by designated hitter Jermy Acey. The Riversharks scored again in the top of the second with a RBI single by Spivey.
Camden carried a 4-3 lead into the sixth inning until Lance Burkhart tied the game up with a deep home run to left-center field.ย Both starters earned no decisions in the game. Right-hander Kevin Mannix gave up four runs on eight innings in five and two-thirds innings of work for Camden. Lefty Keith Ramsey had five innings of work, also giving up four runs on eight hits.
In the eighth inning, Camden broke the tie with two runs on a pair of singles off reliever Mike James.ย But in the end, it was all Jermy Acey. With runners on second and third with one out, the right-handed Acey crushed a ball far beyond the left-field wall to win the game in walk-off fashion for the Blue Crabs 7-6.
It was the third walk-off home run in Regency Furniture Stadium history for the Crabs, and the first this season.ย Matt Hensley (5-3) picked up the win for the Crabs (42-28, 5-3). Julio Guerrero (1-3) gave up the three-run shot and picked up the loss for Camden (33-37, 2-6).
