Waldorf, MD โ€“ July 15, 2019 – The Blue Crabs have been red hot dating back to just before the All-Star break. Southern Maryland stayed hot today as a four run outburst in the bottom of the first inning gave the good guys a lead they would never give up. The good guys went on to win by a final score of 4-0, extending an already season best win streak to six.

After a smooth top of the first from the Blue Crabs starting pitcher, Brandon Cumpton (W, 4-8), Southern Marylandโ€™s bats came alive in their half of the first. Dean Green got the scoring started with an RBI single, driving in Edwin Garcia, and extending Greenโ€™s hit streak to nine games. Tony Thomas kept it going with a tape measure home run that cleared the red roofed clubhouse that sits well beyond the left field mini monster. Thomas drove in a trio of runs with his blast, and gave the Blue Crabs a 4-0 advantage through just one inning.

The Lancaster starter, Kyle Davies (L, 4-7) who came into the contest with a 3.38 ERA, settled down after a rocky first frame. Brandon Cumpton kept rolling, and came across just one tough inning. The jam came in the fourth when Cumpton allowed the โ€˜Stormers to load the bases with just one out. Cumpton buckled down in fantastic fashion, striking out back-to-back Barnstormers to retire the side, maintaining a 4-0 Blue Crabs advantage.

The Blue Crabs bullpen also did a terrific job in relief of Brandon Cumpton.ย  Kevin Munson worked a quick 1-2-3 seventh inning, and James Dykstra, Ryan Chaffee, and MLB veteran Mat Latos (S, 9) combined to shut the door in the final innings of the contest on the way to a 4-0 shutout victory while extending their win streak to six, and advancing to 3-0 in the second half.ย

The Blue Crabs will return home on Friday July 19th, for a game one of a three-game set with the Sugar Land Skeeters, and a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
