The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have announced single-game tickets for four of their most popular dates will go on sale this week, a month before all other single game tickets are made available. Beginning Friday, March 12 at 9 a.m. on the Blue Crabs official website, www.somdbluecrabs.com, fans will be able to purchase tickets to the Blue Crabs home opening series Friday, April 30 through Sunday, May 2 against the Long Island Ducks, and for the Fourth of July, at 7:05 p.m. against the Camden Riversharks.
Fans may begin purchasing tickets to these four games online by visiting the “Buy Tickets Now” or “2010 Schedule” links on the left-hand side of somdbluecrabs.com on Friday. In addition, the Blue Crabs box office hours have been extended to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased in person at Regency Furniture Stadium or over the phone during those times.
These dates are expected to draw among the largest crowds of the 2010 season, and a Blue Crabs single-game attendance record may fall. Both Opening Night (April 30) and July 4 will feature spectacular post-game fireworks displays, along with giveaways and other special events. On Opening Day 2010 magnet schedules will be handed out to the first 2,000 fans in attendance, and on July 4 there will be a Blue Crabs umbrella giveaway. Both giveaways are sponsored by Community Bank of Tri-County. Saturday, May 1 against the Ducks will also feature a post-game fireworks show.
The July 4 contest against Camden will feature a silent auction of special red, white and blue game-worn jerseys benefitting Civista Hospital, the Blue Crabs presenting sponsor and main charitable partner for the 2010 season. The Fourth of July is also a Sunday, which means it will be a part of the new “Meet The Team Sundays” promotion the Crabs are introducing this season. Prior to all Sunday home games, the entire team and coaching staff will sign autographs for 20 minutes on the field as soon as the gates open. The autograph sessions will be free for fans.
Single-game tickets for the remaining 66 home games the Blue Crabs will play this season will be on sale beginning April 10. Director of Ticket Sales Kyle Knichel explains that an exception was made for these dates because of the incredibly high demand, even this early in the spring.
“Our phones are blowing up with questions about opening weekend and the Fourth of July,” says Knichel, “So we wanted to give our fans a chance to secure their seats nice and early.” These nights will all have great crowds and be memorable. The only thing that will make them better are Blue Crab wins, and I’m sure Butch (Hobson) will take care of that.”
The Regency Furniture Stadium record crowd of 7,241 is likely in jeopardy. That mark was set last season on April 23, 2009, when the Blue Crabs opened their second season of play at home against Long Island.
