The Charles County Board of Commissioners voted to give the Charles County Traffic Safety Committee authorization to change speed limits which will result in the speed limit being increased on St. Charles Parkway and Rosewick Road.ย The increase to 50 mph is expected to be well received by residents.
ย
Donna Daughetry, chairwoman of the Traffic Safety Committee, said there are plans to have a light installed at Rosewick Road and Radio Station Road.
ย
The speed limit on the parkway is currently 45 mph on the road, which runs parallel to US-301.ย In 2008, St. Charles Companies completed construction on the extension, which runs from Rosewick Road out to Billingsley Road and is often used by residents to drive around the congested US 301.
ย
Despite the safety concerns at the Radio Station Road intersection, Bill Donnelly from the Charles County Sheriffโ€™s Office said there is plenty of room for cars to merge out on to Rosewick Road and wait for oncoming traffic but drivers donโ€™t do that.
ย
โ€œI think itโ€™s safe,โ€ Donnelly said.
ย
Donnelly and Daughetry both said that increasing the speed limit to 55 mph or higher might not be safe on the whole stretch.
ย
Commissioner Ken Robinson moved to give the Traffic Safety Committee authority to change speed limits.ย The motion passed unanimously.
