Daniel Jerome Ball
Prince Frederick, MD – A St. Mary’s County man has been indicted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in Calvert County back in late October, court records stated. The six-count indictment against Daniel Jerome Ball, 47 of St. Inigoes, was handed down in Calvert County Circuit Court in January. Ball faces charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, second-degree assault and theft less than $1,000.
According to a statement of charges on file in District Court, on Oct. 29 at approximately 9:47 p.m. Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a house on Rawhide Road in Lusby. Detective William Rector stated in documents that a report of a robbery and assault had been made. A man and a woman were inside the residence and the male was suffering from head trauma “which appeared to be the result of blunt force,” Rector stated.
During an interview with the investigator, the male victim explained that he was “suckered punched” by one of three men who came to his house for a chess game. Ball is alleged to have grabbed a knife the victim had in his possession for protection.
Rector stated that the victim claimed Ball “retrieved the knife and stated that he was going to kill him as he struck him numerous times in the head with the butt end of the knife.” During the struggle Ball allegedly stole $386 the victim had in his possession. The three male visitors then fled the residence in a vehicle driven by a female.
“It is known that this robbery was the result of a narcotics sale,” stated Rector in court documents. “However, the injuries sustained were serious and the threats of death were evident.”
Ball is currently incarcerated in the Calvert County Detention Center. His next appearance in Circuit Court will be for a status conference, which is tentatively scheduled for Feb. 22. The case could go to trial in late May.
