At 7:55 p.m. July 9, Dep. Thomas Rickard responded to the area of Ruby Tuesday Restaurant in Prince Frederick for the report of a drunk driver.
Dep. Rickard spotted the suspect vehicle near the Eckerd Pharmacy traveling at a high rate of speed.ย The vehicle continued onto Md. Rt. 4 southbound, failing to stop at the stop sign exiting the shopping center near the WaWa convenience store.
Rickard caught up to the vehicle at the intersection of Old Field Lane and Md. Rt. 4.ย He exited his vehicle and approached the driver of the suspect vehicle, later identified as Joann M. West, 44 of Prince Frederick.
He requested that she put the vehicle in park and exit the vehicle, however, West failed to comply and the vehicle drifted into a Maryland State Police cruiser, which was offering assistance, finally coming to a stop.
West was taken into custody and found to be in possession of xanax, a schedule IV drug.ย She was charged with failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, possession of CDS, destruction of property and driving while intoxicated.
