St. Mary’s City, MD —ย It was a cold crisp morning at St. Mary’s College on Saturday, Nov. 15, but it did not sway more than 20 local tennis players who came out to support the Southern Maryland Food Bank.

“Feast or Slammin'” is a King of the Court doubles format tournament hosted by the St. Mary’s County Tennis Association every year just before Thanksgiving to raise money and food for the food bank.

Winners were decided, but in the end no one really cared. Everyone had a great time enjoying the sunshine and good tennis.

This year, the tournament raised $750 and a sizable pile of canned and dry goods. Association President Alan Turrill said 100 percent of the proceeds was donated directly to the Food Bank.

The St. Mary’s County Tennis Association exists to promote the sport of tennis in the area for players of all ages and skill levels. They have been instrumental in working with the county in establishing youth-sized courts for kids learning programs, and host many events during the year, including USTA league play, Junior Team tennis, and many social events in the area.
