Thomas Bradley Hammett

Thomas Bradley “Brad” Hammett, 70, of Hollywood, MD passed away suddenly at home on June 3, 2026.  He was born on July 28, 1955 in Leonardtown, MD to the late James Richard Hammett, Sr. and Sara Ruth Hammett.

Brad was born and raised in St. Mary’s County attending St. Mary’s Ryken and Great Mills High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corp on August 9, 1973. He proudly served his country until his Honorable Discharge on August 8, 1977. He earned the National Defense Medal while stationed in Japan. He loved the time he spent in Japan and emersed himself in the culture, learning a great deal about cooking as he worked as a sous chef. He earned his Associates degree from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. On August 28, 1981 he married his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Caywood, in Leonardtown, MD. They celebrated over 45 wonderful years of marriage.

Brad will be remembered as a man whose talents, passions, and generosity colored every corner of his life. A skilled handyman and painter, he could fix or create just about anything, and his bountiful gardens were a testament to the care and pride he poured into his home. In his younger days, Brad could be found on the county’s waterways, boating on the “Dixie” or carving the wake on his skis. He took great joy in his pool league nights and the Bucksnort parties that always brought laughter and good company. Whether cruising with his wife, crafting gourmet meals as a true foodie, or chasing the biggest thrills on family trips to theme parks, he embraced every moment with enthusiasm. His love for community ran just as deep, shown through the many years he volunteered for Christmas in April and raising funds for Hospice of St. Mary’s. His spirit, creativity, and joy for life will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Brad is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Hammett, his daughters: Sara Goff (Patrick) of LaPlata, MD, Donna Quade (Anthony) of Hughesville, MD, Linda Koorey (Ryan) of Arnold, MD and Trisha Hammett (Justin) of California, MD; grandchildren: Lily Goff, Mason Koorey, Bradley Goff, and Madison Koorey; siblings: Sue Bucher (Larry) of Virginia Beach, VA, Sally Wiggington (Bob) of Leonardtown, MD, Dickie Hammett (Vicki) of Leonardtown, MD, Ruth Owens of Indian Head, MD, Donna St. Pierre (Mark) of Brunswick, ME, and Steve Hammett (Mary) of Indian Head, MD; and many extended family and friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Jim Hammett and David Hammett.
